ARIIS Restaurant

Have you noticed the new restaurant which has appeared in Paroikia Shopping Centre (Emporiko Kentro)? It was opened recently by Costas, the son of Yiannis Gourogiannis, owner of the renowned Porphyra fish restaurant.

A lot of thought has been put into the decor of Ariis (pronounced Arees). At the time they were searching for a name, they came across a book published for the children of Paros about a statue of Artemis found at Delion. The statue had a girl’s name, Ariis, inscribed on it and it is supposed that she must have been a high born girl living in ancient Paros who had the statue made as a gift to the Temple of Demeter. (You can see the statue in the Archaeological Museum). So, Ariis inspired the decor, which has a classical Greek feel, but then surprises you with an alcove made to look like a cave - complete with stalactites.

However, even more important than the decor is excellent food and a warm welcome. You can be sure of both. Yiannis has taught Costas well and performs his job as host to perfection. The tables are neatly laid with linen tablecloths and napkins. Food is brought to the table piping hot and cutlery is provided for each course. The menu is in Greek but whatever you ‘point at’ you can be sure it will be delicious and beautifully presented.

Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve they will offer an excellent menu which will cost 15,000drs for two people. Ring them on 24409 to book a table in advance and a complimentary bottle of wine will be added to your set meal.

Ariis is a great place to celebrate a special day or just treat yourself when the mood takes you.
