Three Easy Steps to Fly

by Vicki Preston, March 2000
If you have heard of the easyJet service for flights to the UK, and are interested to know more, here are the comprehensive details to enable you to decide if you want to make a quick and easy trip to London before the season is upon us again.

Step 1: Connect to www.easyjet.com on the Internet (or find a friend to do it for you - either on Paros or anywhere else in the world) and follow the instructions on line to check the schedule and availability, make your reservation and payment (by credit card - again, find a friend if you don’t have one yourself). Alternatively call easyJet Sales 01-967-0000 (Greece) or 0044-870-6000-000 (UK) to book by telephone.

Step 2: You are given a confirmation number - write it down. Or, if a friend has made the booking for you, get this number from them. The number is all you need - there is no ticket.

Step 3: Check in at Athens airport one hour before departure. You must have your confirmation number to check in and, of course, your passport.

At check-in you are given a plastic boarding pass which is collected as you board - there are no seat numbers, so you can sit wherever you choose. Smoking is not permitted on the flight and you are not served a meal, but can purchase snacks and drinks on board - make sure you have sterling as the drachma exchange rate is very unfavourable. The cost of a ticket to London is currently as low as 21,100 drachmas one way (including tax), but prices vary depending on availability - booking early means cheaper prices.

EasyJet flies into London’s Luton airport - 30 minutes from north London by road and 15 minutes from London’s orbital M25. The airport is just over 2km from junction 10 of the M1 motorway connecting London with the north of England.

Once you arrive in Luton, you can travel on the Green Line 757 coach service (approx. every half hour) into Central London (stopping at Baker Street, Marble Arch and Victoria Station) at a preferential fare of í5 single or return! Simply tell the driver you are flying with easyJet to qualify. For exact departure and arrival times, contact the Green Line Travel Enquiry Line on 0044-208-668-7261.

There is also a free shuttle bus service (10 minute journey) to Luton rail station from where you can connect to all over Britain. (For train information visit www.thameslink.co.uk)
