Tarot-Astro Column

by Liz Westerhof, November 2001
Card 14 - Temperance

After all the trouble and transformation of the Death card, the Temperance card (no. 14) gives a feeling of peace and contentment.

On this card you see an angel pouring the stuff of life back and forth from the unconscious to the conscious in order to give new meaning and understanding to experience. This is an act of integration. This is a time to find one's equilibrium, to balance external and internal activities, to look for the priorities in your life, to meditate. Harmony and cooperation are necessary now.

Upright this card represents a positive use of energy, self-restraint, trusting the inner self for guidance, patience during difficult experiences, healing and recovery, finding the middle ground and creating synthesis. It symbolizes the bringing together of opposite forces and a state of being centred and secure.

Negative meanings indicate self-indulgence and restlessness with little control over emotions, negative use of sexual energy, ignorance of higher laws and little faith. This card is better used in a positive way - just try to be calm in order to face the storm.

I'll still be here in November. Liz
