Air Ambulance

Included in the "Unity for the Future" programme is the planned introduction of an air ambulance service for Paros.

Giannis Rangoussis organized a visit from the Santorini air ambulance which has been operating successfully for the past 7 years to show citizens on Paros how this solution for our emergency health needs is both attainable and fully tested.

On October 1st, the plane landed at Paros Airport on its return journey from delivering patients to hospital.

Owned by the foundation "Nomikou", the 5-seater plane is permanently stationed in Santorini and piloted by Mr Gratsias. To date it has performed 1,000 patient transfers to hospitals in Athens, Rhodes and Crete when, because of strong winds and bad weather conditions, no boats were running and helicopters could not fly.

The plane has a special licence to allow it priority landing at the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport in Athens and the government provides fuel free of charge.

Mr Rangoussis has already started discussions with the Nomikou Foundation and with government with the aim of obtaining our own plane for Paros. The cost of purchase is around 147,000 euro, with an annual estimated cost of around 73,000 euro for personnel (pilot, doctors, etc), service and support.

Thanks to Ta Nea Tis Parou, the local Greek-language newspaper for this information which is from a story published in their October edition.
