The International Paros Art Circle (IPAC), has had another quite successful year. In the Spring, art appreciation talks followed by discussions were held at the Apothiki Gallery in Paroikia. Subjects included “Beauty, Art and Daily Life” by Peter Seibt, “Vienna Porcelain of the Early 18th Century” by Brigitte Karavias, “The Power of Poetry” by Barry Tagrin, “Art and Medicine” by Apostolos Polyzoides and “The Perception of Art” by Natasa Biza. Feedback from the audiences and speakers showed that these evenings were much enjoyed and appreciated, so further subjects are planned for 2008.
The summer exhibition theme was “Souvenirs of Paros” for which 24 members submitted 150 pieces of art work at the Pandrossos Hotel in Paroikia and the Holiday Sun Hotel in Pounta. This was also a success. The assistance given by hotel manager Thanasis and his team, the Enosi for the cheese and wine, all the sponsors and DEPA was much appreciated.
The 2007 exhibition was the most successful one yet for sales of art work.
Tourists, visitors and residents have also responded well to the Mail Art Competition. The submitted paintings on specially-printed postcards have been sent in to IPAC and will soon be judged. The winners will be notified in January 2008. Many Paros businesses responded generously to this idea as a good promotion for Paros and donated some impressive prizes: The Holiday Sun Hotel in Pounta, Anezina Hotel in Drios, Skaramagkas Jewellery, Tamarisko Restaurant, European Cars / Parais, Happy Green Cows Restaurant, Anemomylos Travel, Naxos Star and Thyella Excursions Antiparos.
Thirteen new members have joined IPAC during the year. They are Anjana Sonneson (Germany), Chrysoula Roboras (Naoussa and Athens), Hilary Finch (Paros), Kalliopi Lerta (Lefkes and Athens), Manfred and Mareille Tynk (Germany), Marios Fournaris (Paros), Pinelopi Stylianou (Paros), Rosemarie Richter (Naxos), Yannis Prassinos (Paros), Stavros Vlachakis (Athens) and Gamal Abdel Nasser, an internationally known artist from Cairo, Egypt. More artists from other countries including Japan, Australia, Malaysia and the USA are also showing interest in participating in IPAC and will become corresponding members.
The November meeting will be an important one to talk about the wishes and new opportunities for members in the coming year. Members need to think about and have the chance to discuss next year’s exhibition theme and to look into the possibility of having IPAC work exhibited at many venues on Paros. In addition to the group exhibition of 2008 there will be other special themes created for different disciplines, e.g. still life, landscapes, nature, people, portraits etc.
There is more information about IPAC on the Internet at http://www.ipac.gr/ where members have short biographies and photos of their work online. Peter Seibt, the President of IPAC, can also be contacted on 22840-23368.
The November meeting will be 28th November at 7pm, at Peter’s studio. Members already on the emailing list will receive notification as usual.
