Student Art Exhibition

by Paul Brooks, December 2006
Orangedoor gallery in association with the Municipality of Paros and D.E.P.A invites you to join us for the opening of the Municipal Art Workshop’s annual student exhibition.

As you may already know, the local municipality offers all residents of Paros the opportunity to attend art lessons at the new art school building in Kamares (on the back road to Naoussa). The art school is organized and run by D.E.P.A which is the municipal department responsible for the cultural development of Paros.

The school is staffed by five friendly familiar faces: Angelika Vaxevanidou, Natasha Biza, Iro Vavanou and Georgos Marmarinos all under the competent management of Dimitra Chanioti. The attentive art viewer will remember the well-presented exhibition Four+One held at the main school of Paroikia this summer in which they all took part.

Every autumn the staff organise an exhibition of the students’ work and this year they have chosen orangedoor gallery as the venue. As there are almost 170 pieces to exhibit they have organised the exhibition in two parts: the children’s exhibition which will run from 9-11 December and the adult’s exhibition running from 13-15 December.

The works, involving a wide variety of mediums and techniques, will include paintings, drawings and sculpture by all the students. The exhibitions will offer the opportunity to meet the teachers and students, to find out more about the school and, most importantly, to see the works that they create. If past exhibitions are anything to go by, this year’s will again be a fun, relaxed and well-attended event.

It is anticipated that our recently re-elected Mayor, Yiannis Rangoussis, will also be present, giving his support and encouragement to these promising local art students.
On behalf of the students, staff and the local Municipality, we invite you to join us for the opening parties, to share a glass of wine (or a glass of pop for the children’s party) and to bring a little colour and imagination into our otherwise rather damp and chilly December evenings.

Children’s exhibition: 9-11 December
