3 Dec - 5.30pm - for the 10th year, the Church of Ekatontapyliani is organizing the “School for Parents” - lectures and discussions related to today’s social problems at the Ekatontapyliani. Info: 22840-21243.

7 Dec - 8pm - The Aegean Center Vocal Ensemble presents a programme of Medieval and Renaissance music under the direction of Orfeas John Munsey at the Aghios Giorgos Catholic Church, Naoussa. Admission free.

8 Dec - from 7pm - An exhibition of student painting, drawing and photography from the classes of Jane Morris Pack, Elizabeth Carson and John Pack at the Aegean Center.

8 Dec - 50s-60s-70s Dance Night for young and old (Buffet optional) at Romantika Restaurant, Aliki. Info/reservations 22840-92103.

10 Dec - 7pm - lighting of the Christmas tree in front of the Ekatontapyliani Church, Paroikia. Santa Claus gives out gifts to the children, music by the Municipal Band and singing of the traditional “kalanda”.#

25 Dec - 10am - singing of the “kalanda” going from house to house in Marpissa, organized by the Women’s Club of Marpissa. Info: Irini 22840-42230.

25 Dec - 5pm - Christmas Mass (in German) at Catholic Church Ag.Giorgios, Naoussa. Info: 22840-28386.

26 Dec - Boxing Day. Shops closed.

31 Dec - New Year’s Eve - children sing carols and families cut the Vassilopita (a sweet bread with a coin inserted) on this night. Whoever finds the coin in their piece is blessed with good fortune for the year. In Naoussa, the Women’s Club organize a round-the-village procession singing the “kalanda” and around 5pm a children’s party with Santa Claus and gifts at the Ag. Athanasios Hall. 1 Jan - New Year’s Day (Proti Chronia), Aghios Vassilis Day. Shops closed. Children sing the “kalanda” in the morning.

1 Jan - swearing-in of the new Mayor and Municipal Council at the Town Hall. Call to verify date/time: 22840-21200.

6 Jan - Epiphany (Theofania - also known as “ta fota”). After morning service in Paroikia, Naoussa, Piso Livadi & Antiparos the priests lead a procession to the shore where the sea is blessed, a cross is thrown in and young men dive for it.

17 Jan - Aghios Antonios feast day is celebrated in the church and monastery of Aghios Antonios on Kefalos hill near Marpissa.

28 Jan - Triodion - the beginning of Apokries (the Carnival period) for the three weeks up to the start of Lent on Clean Monday (19th Feb). Traditionally a time for fiestas and parties.

28 Jan - 6.30pm - ”Mazi me tous Goneis” Part I Parenting Seminar at the Archilochos Hall, Paroikia. (Part II will be on Sun, 4 Mar). Info: DEPA - 22840-22860.

4 Feb - 8pm - Concert by the Paros Music School “Hommage to Beethoven” at the Archilochos Hall, Paroikia.


16 Dec - 7pm - The Vocal Ensemble of the Aegean Center for the Fine Arts (Paros) presents a programme of Medieval and Renaissance a cappella music under the direction of Orfeas John Munsey at the Capella (next to the Archaeological Museum, Kastro, Chora).
