A new art gallery on Market Street in Paroikia held its inaugural party on 29th April this year.
“Anima” by Ulrike Lassen was the title of the second exhibition at “orangedoor” from 9th-24th May: a visual commentary on our “pig within”, touching sacrosanct taboos and allowing us to peep behind the mirror of our socially-conditioned persona – the mask we usually show to the world – shedding light on the vibrant living creatures that we truly are, full of life, love, fun and naughtiness!
The opening reception on May 12th, in the presence of art lovers and friends left many of us with a big, big smile on our faces!
Thank you to owners Paul and Angelika for making this such an enjoyable evening. More is to come. Exhibitions on the agenda for June are as follows:
Elpida Iatrou & Amelie Panagakos
26 May – 11 Jun
These two young artists come together to show their exciting and vibrant collection of works.
Contrasting styles and various mediums greet us as we explore their concepts and themes, allowing us to enjoy and appreciate their expressive energies and spirits. A sense of development and searching is evident throughout, capturing the attention of the viewer and stimulating much deserved debate and critique.
Sandra Contreras
13-28 Jun
Exhibiting for the first time in Greece, Mexican-born artist Sandra Contreras presents her latest collection of work.
“Sich-Fragen” (Asking Myself) is a collection of paintings and drawings exploring the artist’s questions and responses. The pictures, initially fragile and delicate in appearance, lead the viewer into a world of emotive interpretation and child-like imagination and fantasy.
Sandra’s honest and truthful style achieve a focus and intimacy which allows us to connect, contemplate and experience our own reasoning systems which in turn leads to our own self-questioning.
Sandra currently lives and works in Berlin. On the evening of 17th June she will be at the gallery, where she invites you to join her, to share a glass of wine, and talk about her work.
A Celebration of Mosaic
30 Jun – 11 Jul
In association with the Municipality of Paros, orangedoor gallery is bringing together ten renowned Greek mosaic artists who will show a range of styles and techniques used in modern mosaic art.
Mosaic is an artform which dates back through the millennia and it is celebrated in this unique and informative exhibition. The artists taking part will include the professor of mosaics for the Athens School of Fine Arts and Angelika Vaxevanidou, whose recently finished commission piece can be found at Aghios Arsenios on Paros.
Figurative, abstract and landscape styles are present, as well as decorative motifs and designs, giving the viewer an impressive and comprehensive look into the world of mosaic.
The exhibition also provides an informative historical guide to mosaics, an intriguing look at the way they are constructed and an opportunity to participate in the making of a mosaic.
Orangedoor offers an extended invitation to all the readers of Paros Life to join them on the evening of 30th June for the opening, to meet the artists involved and to help them celebrate this most ancient of arts.
