The Zannet has been run as a family business since the 80s. Many of us will remember the old Port Cafe which was successfully operated by the same owners – Zanetta and Thanassis Apostolopoulos – for more than 25 years.
Their son Nicos and his wife Amalia have lately remodelled the Hotel-Cafe. The spacey but cosy lounge-like cafeteria/bar will be open all winter, offering a variety of coffees and teas, cakes and sweets, beverages and a range of cold and hot snacks.
The fireplace, the seaview and the friendliness of the owners guarantee it to be an excellent place for the winter to hang out or to hold meetings for groups of people. Also, if you have friends or family coming to stay, rooms with private bathroom, heating and seaview are available.
Located in Livadia, Paroikia, the cafeteria is open Mon to Fri from 5pm; Sat, Sun and holidays from 11am. For bookings and reservations for special events call: 22840-21575, 693-691-3959, or email: hotelzannet@yahoo.gr.
Taverna-Mezedopoleio Hippocrates
Owner Dimitris Karakatsanis grew up in Limnos, where his father had a Hotel and Taverna in the port of Mirina. To some of us Dimitris will be familiar from the airport, where he worked for Olympic Airways for 25 years, and also from the seafood restaurant Mouragio in Alyki which he ran for 4 years.
The Hippocrates Taverna, situated next to the post office, was opened this spring and will stay open for most of the winter months.
“There are three things that can make an enterprise flourish”, Dimitris says , as we are talking about his business, “ Love and passion for what you are doing, the know-how, and the wish and effort to make your customers feel welcome and happy with what you have to offer them”.
On his menu is traditional Greek food, as we know and love it, as well as a variety of Hippocrates specials – recipes from Asia Minor handed down from grandfather to father to son – such as: Eggplants Hippocrates, Astako Makaronada, Garido Makaronada, Patsa, Kakavia, Quail in Oil & Oregano Sauce, Chicken Hippocrates, Fricasse, Spetsofai (a sausage meze from the Pelion), Seftalies (keftedes from Cyprus), Gardoumbakia (small kokoretsi), and many more. All ingredients are from local produce, wines are from Paros and Limnos, olive oil from Paros and Samos and the fish and seafood comes from the local kaikia.
The indoor space has a warm atmosphere and a fireplace. Open daily from 12 noon, except Mon and closed for holidays between Dec 10th and end Jan 2006. Tel: 22840-24351.
