Advertising Feature

by Karen Barratt, April 1998
We thought it would be a nice idea to feature one of our advertisers more fully in each issue. This month it was decided to start with “The Anchor” taverna in Drios.

This is a venue very close to my heart, as my husband and I have celebrated our birthdays and anniversaries here and, on one occasion, even danced on the table!

The Anchor is a family-run taverna overlooking Drionisi. Nick Banakas is from Agrinio, a famous place, I am told, for specialities cooked on the spit. His wife Betty was born here on Paros and she learned traditional Parian cooking from her mother. Their wine is home made and to prove it you can see the barrels on show in the taverna. Nick and Betty, together with their two sons Thomas and Petros, have made a successful business based on good food, warmth, friendliness and helpfulness.
