Last month the first ‘mini’ Goody’s in the Cyclades opened its doors on Paros.
Goody’s is a wholly Greek-owned chain which began in Thessaloniki in 1975 and have gone from strength to strength, opening outlets all over Greece, Cyprus, Portugal and Bulgaria - now employing more than 3,000 people.

The Parian owners of the local franchise, who themselves come from Kostos village, have spared no expense in making their building in the main square of Paroikia blend in by using a mixture of old and new architecture. In fact, Nicholas the proprietor’s father can remember nearly 60 years ago, as a young boy, being taken by his father to the one and only taverna which existed in Paroikia at that time. Now, not only does his family offer a facility where parents can take their children, they have also given the opportunity of employment to fifteen young Parians. This is good news, and should help placate those who may see the coming of a fast-food restaurant chain to the island as being in some ways intrusive.

Yiannis, the proprietor, was educated at Thessaloniki University and then went on to the University of Sussex in England where he studied for his Masters degree. He is very happy to be able to live and work at home on Paros with his wife and baby son and be near his very supportive family.

The standard of equipment to be found in the kitchens is amazing and the decor very ‘european’. Yiannis is planning to introduce a new ‘Greek Salad’ to his menu which he hopes will be offered throughout the Goody’s chain.

We wish the family every success and, judging by the reaction of the younger generation of Paros, they shouldn’t have any problems.
