An historic meeting took place between the Mayor of Paros and the Mayor (Sindaco) of Pistoia, in Tuscany, Italy on October 7th. Accompanied by John Pack of the Aegean Center for the Fine Arts and local architect Petros Metaxas, Mayor Yiannis Rangoussis travelled to Pistoia to meet with Mayor Renzo Berti to exchange and explore ideas for cultural tourism.
It is one year already since Vassilis Yakoumis, much-loved dancer and teacher of dance left us on November 4th, 2003. A little piece of Vassili's (and Paros's) history has been preserved by Len and Marilyn Rooks.
Soprano Catherine Bootsman from Victoria in Canada spent last winter studying with Orfeas John Munsey on the vocal programme at the Aegean Center for the Fine Arts. The programme for her solo concert this month, sponsored by the Aegean Center, on Sunday, 28th November will include Handel, Mozart, Debussy and Bernstein.
The art workshop programme which was run so successfully by local artist Dimitra Hanioti last year for both children and adults has been extended by the Municipality for the new session beginning November 1st.
During their one week stay on Paros in May 2003, members of the Faros-Paros-Faros expedition and local Parian officials planted three olive trees in front of the Paros Town Hall as a symbol of new friendship between the two islands. Sixteen Parian olive plants were also taken back to Hvar to be planted there.
On the 25th of September more than 50 journalists from the local Cycladic newspapers attended the 7th Convention of the Cycladic Press Union, sponsored by the Municipality of Paros, to discuss the pressing environmental issues of the islands.
The Municipalities of Athens and Paros, together with IPAC, organized a collective exhibition of international Parian painters and sculptors at the Melina Mercouri Cultural Center in Athens in June which will now be shown on Paros this month.

The Institute for Language and Speech Processing (ILSP) was founded in Athens in 1991 under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Research & Technology of the Ministry of Development. "Filoglossia" was designed and developed by ILSP as a multimedia programme addressed to beginners learning Greek as a foreign language.
