Over the past few months we have introduced a number of new ways to keep you up to date with news and events between printed issues. And over the summer, we're running a competition to win two free places at Tao’s Center workshops.
March or April is not a typical time for tourists in the Greek islands, but the Ryan-Gélinas family – Marie-France, Kevin, and their children Kassandra (14), Anthony (12), Timothy (he celebrated his 9th birthday on Earth Day on Paros!) and Gregory (5) – are not your typical tourists!
On 30 May, we had the pleasure to meet Br. Shubamrita Chaitanya during a heart-warming evening at the Tao’s Center. Many people gathered to listen to his talk ‘Happiness is a Decision’, and take part in the concert and guided meditation that followed.
The Hellenic Geocaching Centre is based on Amorgos, one of the leading destinations for walking in the Aegean. It was founded by the directors of Special Interest Holidays (SPIN), Paul and Henrietta Delahunt-Rimmer, in association with The Pagali Hotel and Niko’s Taverna, Langada, Amorgos.
A rich agenda of seminars and workshops will take place again this summer at the House of Literature in Lefkes organised by EKEMEL, the European Translation Centre, which cooperates with universities and institutes around the world to organise seminars and meetings with the purpose of promoting the translation of Greek literature overseas.
Congratulations to Arnold Sharp and to Hilary Finch who won the Paros Life & Naxos Life lottery for a free place on two June workshops at the Tao’s Center: The Way of the Heart with Orly Ujallah and The Return of the Goddess with Deva Ambu, for their entries in the Innovaros ‘What’s so Special About Paros & Antiparos?’campaign.

In 2002 four members of the Media dell’ Arte Creative Team began a remarkable project – the creation of the Cyclades Oral Archive comprising hundreds of hours of interviews with local people talking about their lives. The interviews record some dark pages of the islanders' history – the years of occupation, immigration, their music and feasts, love affairs, wars, economic crises, social uprising and crimes that shocked their small communities.
The Axia International Festival takes place every summer on Naxos and proposes a wonderful journey full of music, art and special environmental activities. The third edition of the festival from 11-18 August 2011 offers a programme full of exciting concerts, exhibitions, master classes and cultural events.
The history of the village of Kinidaros on Naxos is interwoven with dance and music. “The children in Kinidaros first learn to dance and afterwards to walk,” the saying goes. This year’s celebration: ‘Dancing Days in Kinidaros Naxos’ will take place on 29-30 July.
2011 marks the start of the second decade of the Naxos Festival. We have come of age, an opportunity to look forward once again but also to look back, reflecting on what has characterised our choices up to now and what direction we will take in the future. Our criteria have always been to seek the essential, the authentic, but, at the same time, the aesthetic.
Just before Easter, Christos Stamadianos, the owner of Christos Restaurant on the Paroikia waterfront, announced that he had sold the place (which will be turned into a café by the new owner) and would be closing in one week. The news spread fast.

The three-day Natural Building Workshop at the Tao's Center in June was a great success and the results are here for you to see. I don't know if the photographs show how much fun we had building this wall made of stone, mud, sand, straw and a bit of goat hair, but we certainly enjoyed it. And although it looks like a wall, it is actually a bridge.
