Four years have passed already since the unforgettable “homecoming” of the Olympic Games to Athens in 2004. This month, China is hosting the Games of the XXIX Olympiad from August 8 to August 24 and earlier this year 32 members of the Music Dance Group of Paros travelled to China to participate in the pre-Olympic events.

Kyklades News reports that Italian scientists have reason to be concerned over a tsunami threat in the region of the Aegean and Ionian Seas. The increased temperatures of global warming cause the sea to dilate, which causes a simultaneous response of sea water volume and level increase which results in extensive coastal erosion.
A group exhibit with the theme “INSPIRED BY PAROS” is taking place in the Dimotikon School in Paroikia from 2-31 August. The 5th annual exhibit organized by IPAC – the International Paros Art Circle – is showing the work of twenty-four artists, including painters, sculptors and art jewellery designers.
Sculptor Ingbert Brunk will be exhibiting his work in Cycladic marble at the Yria Ceramics studio just above the village of Kostos on Paros throughout August and September. He is also holding an “open” studio on 13th and 14th August and on 16th and 17th from 6-9 in the evening.

The theme of the Naxos Festival programme for 2008 organized by the AEON Cultural Non-Profit Organization, is the relationship between art and madness. All festival events are held at the Bazeos Tower, a 17th century monument near to Sangri in the hinterland of Naxos.

NOP athlete Polyxeni Sarri’s most recent achievement is in the Pan-European Optimist Competition at Lake Garda in Northern Italy, where, on her first trip abroad, she made it to 6th place in the women’s category and first among the Greek participants. And the NOP team gave an outstanding performance at the Pan-Hellenic Optimist Championship held in Aegina from 19-24 June.
